Rethinking Sacrifice Week 3: Spring Cleaning By: Minister James Porter
Remember back in the day your parents made you do spring
cleaning. Your parents made you clean places you never thought about
cleaning before. Like under and behind the toilet bowl, cleaning the baseboards
in the kitchen, cleaning windows inside and out, and let’s not forget throwing
away items you don’t need. Those were the days! Well, we still have to do some
deep cleaning even today.
Lent
is about sacrifice, repentance, and cleansing. Spiritual Cleansing is important
for the heart, mind, and spirit. Ps 51:10 say “Create in me a clean heart, O
God, and put a new and right spirit within me.” In this season of Lent,
let's ask the Lord to remove the hatred, guilt, malice, evil stuff from our
hearts. Remove the negative, nasty, disrespectful thoughts out of our
minds and keep our minds stayed on thee. Allow God to grant you access to
a new heart and new spirit. An impure mind leads to an impure
heart, and an impure heart leads to an impure spirit. With God, if we
clean up one area, He will help us clean the other areas in our
lives.
After
we clean up our self spiritually, we must also clean up ourselves physically. Physical cleansing is
discarding items that may distract us from making room for God. In this
season of Lent, you may need to throw out some people, places, and things to
allow Jesus to occupy that space. We all some items that can be tossed
away and never return. I will leave you with this, one day (if not
already) you will receive a message on your phone saying, Storage full or
almost full. Some of us have photos, videos, and old numbers dated years
back on our phones that are occupying space. Unless you delete, you are
unable to add any new content. How can you allow Jesus to clean your
heart, mind, spirit when your storage is at its max capacity? It’s time
for some Spring cleaning!
Amen
